Radiance at the Hoop Path Retreat...

Another day at the Hoop Path retreat.. on the path back to wholeness.

It has been so wonderful. Yesterday's theme was The Mind and Baxter started his class with a mantra, "It's okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay" while we hooped blind. The whole theme was about accepting ourselves as we are and releasing the chatter of the mind, comparisons to others, worries about needing to be anything other than we are, etc.

We played with breaks and paddles and the paddling was a nice review for me since I have resisted using them for a long time...

We also played with legs in both directions and I was somewhat consumed with the leg reversals and Kickback waist reversal: all obsessions for me. Also with the legs, I really enjoyed seeing how low I could crouch my whole body down overtop of the hoops with a flat back so I was completely compressed around them - an awesome drill. We also played with angles and I loved it, as usual, playing with absolute verticals and complete hand and arm mobilization underneath the hoop. I've been consumed with grasping my hands behind my back and gripping them and seeing how articulate I can remain while hooping in Snake and on Barrel Roll, and it was a wonderful challenge. It was another super sweaty get-down sesh! The day continued with lunch at the Weaver Street market, then some down time before a night time fire ceremony here at Beth's house.

There was a wonderful hoop jam to a live percussionist who wove in loops of drumming and vocalization to create a soulful and hipnotic mix. We hooped in the meadow in the humid 90 degree heat, covered in sweat and mosquitoes and OFF spray, sinking into the ditches and grass tickling our ankles as we whirled. It was so slippery that the hoops kept sliding! But the beats were so enticing and the hoop groove was so sick that I couldn't help surrendering to the music and hooping my ass off. It continued into dark and with psi hoops which whirled in colorful circles of light. Some spotted snakes near the outskirts of the clearing and the talk of ticks was thick -- it all added to the Southern wilderness mystique!

After this, we broke into our mini-tribes and each group presented something to the whole group in front of a roaring fire. It was a time of release and transformation for many who shared heartfelt personal challenges which they were consciously changing. Then fire dancing, socializing in small clusters around the meadow and on the porch, and tissue and hooping in the barn to glitchy hip hop.

A wonderful, wonderful day... I ram loving the challenging exercises and inspiration. There has been a deep, primal pulse in my body which has been re-activated. It is moving in surges and is a bit wild and raw and wonderful all at the same time. I am LOVING it. I am loving remembering who I am in the hoop and who it allows me to be... so grateful for the friends and guides along the path...
