Level 2 Teacher Training Reflections: Day 2

Yesterday was day two of the level two HoopGirl Teacher Training program here in San Francisco and it was amazing! I taught the girls about 5 hours of master classes on the dancefloor and we had lots of forum and lectures on further developing facilitation skills and the intermediate HoopGirl Workout class format. It was intense, focused and very physical, but also very rewarding.

Despite the tremendous amount of information being downloaded to them in such a short time, all the participants are fresh, eager and excited for more! It is so thrilling to be surrounded by so many women who are passionate to go to the next level in their skills and their businesses. I am reminded of what I love most about my work! working with women on-fire with inspiration to re-invent and enrich themselves.

Satise assisted and provided wonderful guidance for the women on the dancefloor while learning moves and in discussion sessions. Thank you, Satise!

Scott, our amazing pro photographer arrived early and took photos of the trainees warming up "in the Buff" and learning the techniques of facilitating sightless body scans while hooping, and also of part of their master class learning Pizza Toss and Portal. He is such a blessing for our community and is an amazing documentarian. The women will all receive the images for use on their own websites and businesscards as needed...

We had our new SuperStar belts and Funky Fairy Pants arrive to our vending area last second and they were scooped up eagerly by participants. Jenny commented about the belts, "we look like superheros in these!" and it's true. I've been called a superhero many times in these outfits and it is fun! I realized looking out at the community of HoopGirl teachers milling about and networking that we have created a real community with it's own vibrant style, flair and beliefs. Bright, bright colors in tanks and Sassy Pants, cute hair accessories (which I am going to add to our store soon!), bodacious utility belts and generally an ear-to-ear smile! I can't help but feel thrilled watching women connect from all over the US and globe and see them exchange information... who knows what lovely projects and amazing things they will do together. I am honored to be part of the connection... and delighted to always meet so many remarkable women who enrich my own life as well.

We closed the event with a mini discussion of what the women's practicums would look like on Sunday. This is when each trainee steps into the role of being teacher and teaches the class to receive detailed feedback about how her skills can be improved. For me, this is the most exciting time in the training when I can watch each attendee step into her own leadership style. Can't wait to see how they each hold space as intermediate HoopGirl Workout teachers! Finally, we closed with a massage circle on the floor, each giving the person in front a wonderful back massage while Cassandra recited a poem. It was the most perfect way I could have imagined ending! Looking forward to today...
