Hoopdancing on KTLA-CW in Los Angeles on Wednesday

30058750.gif After I was bumped from being on Monday's version of this show, I flew to Sacramento yesterday to be on Good Day Sacramento, and flew back to LA to be on KTLA on Wednesday. A bit of a stretch since I had to teach my first two Crunch classes later that night in San Francisco and then grab a late night flight to San Diego from there... but hey, why not rock out?

For whatever reason, I did have some serious butterflies with KTLA. Their entire compound is way more high end, huge and well... LA! Danica McKeller from the Wonder Years was on right before me and there was a buzzy kind of excitement there that felt *big*.

It is so interesting. Before every TV segment I take a lot of time to prepare what I am going to say and how I will say it, but the truth is when doing a segment with hoops everything can quickly go into total chaos. Being able to answer off the cuff questions and support anchors who keep dropping their hoops can be a challenge to rise up to! When the anchors kept dropping their hoops my heart was racing a bit, but I just tried to stay lighthearted and playful.

You can see my unusual nervousness in this segment on my face, specifically my forehead. My face is so animated with enthusiasm that my wide eyes are creating furrows in my forehead. Hmm... kind of strange looking. Good learning on the bizzare body habits, for sure. Also, there is this one point when my back is to the camera. It was odd because the anchors were fanning out behind me, but the cameras were in front... so how to instruct someone behind you while looking straight ahead. Luckily, they switched the angle on that pretty fast.

Overall, however, I was really pleased with this piece as it really conveyed what makes my approach to hoopdance unique... an emphasis on pleasure, fun, what I called "gorgeous fitness". Even though they dropped their hoops a bit, they kept smiling, speaking positively and having fun. I loved that they showed so many segments of my Hoopdance for Beginners DVD and just splashed my logo and contact info up too... so generous of them! Thank you! It was also really honoring that they added my degree after my name, M.A. I have two master's degrees and it is really rare that I get to share that with people in the context of hooping. What a dazzling experience. I really feel thrilled that they invited me on the show because KTLA is huge and they could have had anyone they wanted! blessings abounding...

You can watch it as long as it lives on their homepage here:
